It started with another "all the sudden," and the man
seemed quite foreign in those present surroundings.
He'd had enough to drink to own the
place by then, but his goal wasn't even
small business, so that was right out there;
right out there with a flock of sheep and
the souvenir she'd picked to prove that the
world was once here.

"Step right up and out of the way for a
stunning display of mass disintegration."
...and oh what a stunning display it was.
I was hardly a practiced human being of thirteen
years when I'd heard the glorious voice
of this sculptor of fascination. Mind you
time had stopped for the benefit of my understanding.
And the sound of frozen space; far more superior
than anything once imaginable.

And they'd preached of gods and kings; ha!
They'd once told tales of evolution; ha!
This was no fable as paralleled to these
crude visions. This was the whore of decapitation,
though evidence with head to begin with was
as rare as any guilt-bleached confidence man in
drag. The words which could squeeze between
his lips had so far been nothing but the experience
of dreams, and this was his time to speak.
Damned if I was the only one who could listen.

Three, two, one; horror. Immense torture; the
combination in the bank of truth. History had
been figures in my shoe box, and I thought I'd
enjoyed the quiz shows on my radio. The greatest
treatment for the modern brain was being bathed
in beautiful nonsense. As he peeled the
daguerreotypes and filters from my eyes, I'd
gathered that this man was a dying one,
(the packaged breed, spent in his next fall
to rest). Somehow I'd survived lesson one in
hundreds counting. This came as no surprise
to him; he knew exactly who he had chosen.
