What is it that keeps you from me?
Whatever it be, let it know that
It hath held me from happiness
And I fear I might ne'er
forgive myself, or it,
for a life without happiness
can never be complete,
and at that, can never lay at ease.
So that barrier you hath held
between us two, that paramount of my in-endearment
Let it fall now, for without its end
I fear I shall never feel true love,
never see true beauty;
other than that which I have already seen
And that is you.
Take notice of my dire need
and lend pardon on my withering heart.
Look past that sickly barrier
that distances The Two apart.
Is it not obvious?
I love you.
I shun others; I can be a brute.
And if that petty excuse shall claim
what is to be,
I grieve!
But tell me now, to settle all
Willst thou not be mine;
so that I may be in happiness,
as I am of thee?
All I can affirm to you now:
that I am yours.
Take me...or leave me.
But oh! if you should
save one of us from
the ungrateful pardon,
which is death,
Take me!
And if you choose
to not choose
the window of prosperity and opportunity,
and instead the door of departure,
It will be known to God
in my heart, that I shall follow.
So take me. Take me!
My heart begs of you,
but I try plead not.
In my world, you are Sun,
the god of my constant and unheeded idolatry.
The Bearer of all that brings life,
all that brings love.
You see, you are
my spirit itself.
Without you I shall wither to dust,
as does the desert flower!
So look upon thy barrier now
and tell me: will that come
between The Two, that should be
One?
If you know not, know at least
this: 'Tis thee that I love;
now, and forever.
