The ballroom was lit by a great chandelier
And the echoes of chatter and laughter
A night among nights, it was splendorous
But naught until the dancing had passed
The ballroom cleared out in a shuffle of steps
The chandelier dimmed to a soft aching glow
Our eyes met distantly across the ballroom
We joined in a feeling only you and I know
I found myself motionless, still, in the night
You came to me from where you had stood
The light of the chandelier glowed in your eyes
Diamonds etched in a dark evening wood
You spoke to me, I stood there, awestruck
Your words tugged my heart like a harp
As I mustered some speech you just smiled at me
And there did the true magic start
We walked hand in hand to the balcony
The moon kissed your face and your gown
We spoke until the full moon had disappeared
And the fiery sun was beaming down
"Come with me, please", I implored you
"The morning is yet just a child."
You smiled and replied "That plan sounds just fine,
I'll follow your steps for a while"
"Follow me?, no, walk beside me.
I can't face my future alone."
And as glorious bolts of sunlight did glow
You took my arm and tugged me along
You lead me through hallways and stairwells
We came upon an art gallery
You pointed to a portrait, and there on the wall
Was a painting of you kissing me
And you said to me there in that gallery
"You'll never again be alone,
For we'll walk side by side until the end of all time,
Until we've long since been grown."
I smiled at the thought and I kissed you
A tear fought its way from my eye
I held you tight and felt you breathe out
In a drawn out and soft loving sigh
"I love you so much" said I in a whirl of emotion
You sighed again, smiled, and replied "I know."
"I'll walk beside you wherever you go,
In this feeling only you and I know...
"Just tell me where and I'll carry you there,
Just tell me the word, and we'll go."
