Little precious Mary Beth
Lived a life of confusion and lies
She didn’t know what to believe
She wasn’t sure of who to trust
She was always there when someone needed her
She just couldn’t say no
It was a word she often heard
But rarely spoke
No one knew that this beautiful girl
With the bright smile and wise words
Cried herself to sleep every night
No one knew that deep down inside
She wasn’t as happy as she seemed to be
She was hurt and barely holdin on
Acting and hiding emotions
She was good at indeed
Always wearing a fake smile
And holding back her painful tears
That she sometimes wished she could just cry
Strong she was
But also delicate and fragile
She always cared
And never gave up
But one day -
Her shell broke
Her tight protective covering just wasn’t working anymore
She snapped
She decided to not care anymore
Oh what a terrible mess she caused
No was the only word in her vocabulary
Getting revenge was the only thing on her intelligent mind
She hurt people where it counted the most
She took what was most precious
She even took her best friend’s boyfriend
Not aware of what she was doing
Not aware of how many people she was hurting
It came as a big shock
When her beloved ex-boyfriend told her of how much she had changed
She cried for the first time
Without worrying about if anyone could see her
She desperately tried
Tried as hard as she could
To make it all better
To fix all the mistakes she had made
She said sorry to everyone about everything
No one would believe her
She tried again and then again
Nothing worked
She had become who she never wanted to be
She is all alone now
Even though she is surrounded by love
She feels as if she doesn’t deserve it
Because of what she has done
And all the pain she has caused
Little Mary Beth is changing again
For the good this time
She is not becoming who she was
She is becoming who she should have been all along
No one pushes her around anymore
She doesn’t seek revenge
She explains why it hurts
And tells them to stop
This beautiful girl has a long road to travel still
She knows nothing will ever be the same
And she may have lost things that meant so much to her
But she thinks it’s gonna be ok
Because she deserves to be punished for her stupidity
She is living with her mistakes now
Fixing things the best she can
And as for everything she can’t fix –
Maybe they were just meant to end up this way
