kisses on your pillow

Today, my daddy went to war.
My daddy is a soldier.

He is going to a place called Iraq.
Iraq is very far away.
My daddy says that there are little girls and boys just like me in Iraq.
He is going to help them.

My daddy got ready to go to war.
My mommy helped him pack his bags.

I saw her put a little note in his bag.
I think it said, “kisses on your pillow”.
That’s what we say every night to each other before bed.
Our hearts like to hear it.

My daddy told me that he is going to miss me.
I am going to miss him too.

“I will always be right there,” my daddy said.
He touched my heart.
My heart is part of his heart.
He will always hear my heart even far away.

Today, I didn’t go to school.
I went with my mommy to take my daddy to the base.
I saw some other daddies and mommies.
They were soldiers too.

I saw my friend, Kimberly.
Her daddy is a soldier.
I saw lots of people saying goodbye.

Everyone was ready to go.

My daddy picked me up and gave me a big twirl.
“I love you, squirt.” My daddy said.

He pointed to my heart.
I pointed to his heart.

“I love you, too daddy.” I said.
.

My daddy kissed my mommy goodbye.
Then my daddy and the other soldiers had to go.

I waved until I couldn’t see my daddy anymore.
Mommy was sad.
I was sad too.

In the car, mommy was talking to me.

Mommy told me that God has a big plan.
Everyone in the world gets to be a part of His plan.
Sometimes we don’t know what the plan is.
But God knows the big plan and how all the parts fit together.

Daddy’s part is to be a soldier.
Mommy’s part is to take of me.
And my part is to pray for daddy and the other soldiers.

Mommy said that when we all play our parts.
God’s big plan gets done.

I know God is going to take care of me.
I know God is going to take care of my daddy.
But I am still sad and that’s ok.

Mommy helped me lay my clothes out for school.
We read my favorite book and said my prayers.

“Good night, pumpkin.” Mommy said.
“Kisses on your pillow” we said it at the same time.
That made us laugh.

Mommy left the door open.
Just in case I needed her.

I looked outside.
It was really dark.
I think that it is bed time in Iraq too.
My daddy is probably going to sleep.
Just like me and mommy.

I put my hand over my heart.
“Kisses on your pillow, daddy.”
