" I was talking once with a friend of mine and sharing with her some of
my floetic poetry and then she said that I was a thugette. And so I
said..."

Thugette, because I use my mind to speak rhymes
Looking at a 360 degree view of the world and life in today's time
Thugette, because I have the knowledge to see, and forgive me if maturity I
believed and faith of a brighter day I concieved
And maybe I felt a little victimized, or rather criticized to know I fell
into subliminal trickery
Crippling my spirit like criptine
So you call me a thugette because I was told to obtain happiness, I would
first have to obtain nappiness
And then I was told I'd be gratified
But then if i'm not gratified
Would my words become deadly and ratify
And is it my fault of the streetz of AIDS and Crack and Black on Black, and
jealous, and rivalry is a living fact
Does that make me a thugette to not know what to do for the fathers that
will never be known and for the babies without a home,
And feel inferior because my soul could never be cloned 'though
everything else is,
And ye though I walk through the alleys of these drug-infested streetz
I shall fear no man, because see lawd you are there, and you have protected
core
And as I give praises with my right hand the bible and left in the air
spillin' out an overdose of wordz and love
And given love is true because see only few do what I do
And as the lioness, hear me roar because you can't keep still or
silent
No need to be violent, because I'm projecting a positive message and
there is a lesson
I maybe called a thugette, lyrical artist, or a ghetto child with a dream
As it may seem, and even wake up in a cold sweat and scream
But I am a lioness, hear me roar and I won't keep quiet, not now and
not yet, wanna bet
Call me a star, call me a scholar, an intellect, and even an Aphrodite
But as long as I am strong and black, my words will take effect
So don't give me put-downs or try to belittle me with rhymes or lies
wided melody
I can be as meak and mild as a newborn child
Or better yet, be the fiercest chick you ever met
So let me correct, I'm an artist, master of wordz, a writer, a poet
I will continue to write forever
And won't stop, not now, not yet,
I am a lioness her me roar
But I am what you call a thugette
