Tunnel Vision

The lightning Strikes
the clock strikes midnight
I look through this tunnel
but I see no light.

I look to the left
I look to the right
but all around me
an everlasting night.

A sudden wind
chilled my soul
like the fire breathes
within white coals.

As if carried
by unseen wings
the lightning struck again
as what was thought to be heaven began to sing.

I hear the sound of children
laughing in the air
but then the sounds of sirens
suddenly begin to blare.

The laughter turned to pain
as the children started to weep
for the loss of another loved one
cut their emotions deep.

Deeper than any dagger
or sword dared to stroll
deep into the void
of the human soul.

My mind was ripped away
by a shadow that danced in the dark
and the light from the shadow’s door
disappeared like a fleeting spark.

The thunder clapped
and stirred my slumber
it was all a dream
and I began to wonder.

What I would do
if I died tonight
and never saw
another light

so before I become
just another mound
I live everyday to the fullest
trapped in the devil’s playground.
