The Mask

Everyday as we wake up,
We all put on our own little mask,
It’s a very large mask yet none can see it,
It covers us,
So none can ever see what we really are,
Why do we put on this mask?
We all have our reasons but never know them,
Or is it…
That we have had our masks on
So long we forgot why?

We are all so truly convinced that
We are what people want to see,
(Or what we want to be seen as)
We don’t even know we have a mask

We all live on a stage,
We will dance,
Sing,
Or even cry,
As long as we make the audience clap

We will put on these masks
To fool other people
To like you,
Or hate you.
Who are we really fooling though?

Is it really worth it to
Lie to you own life
To be noticed?

Loved?

Hated?

Isn’t it scary to think that you
Depend on the acceptance of
People you don’t even like
Just so you don’t have to be alone?

Who are you really fooling?

Who are you really fooling?

But yourself…
